YOUR PRIVACY MATTERS
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Hachi handles when you use our website and vocabulary learning app.
Effective October 1, 2026
Information you choose to provide
Hachi processes the text, images, and audio that you choose to submit for vocabulary extraction. Cards and preferences you save in the mobile app are stored on your device. If you connect Hachi to ChatGPT, words, playlists, and account information needed for that connection are stored in your online Hachi account. If you email support, we receive the information you include in your message and use it to respond.
AI and transcription services
AI features run on Hachi’s servers, which send what you submit to OpenAI to process it: the text or photo you select for vocabulary extraction, the word you look up or ask a new example or picture for, and recordings you choose to transcribe. Spoken pronunciations are created with OpenAI or ElevenLabs from the word or sentence being read aloud. These services process the information only to provide the feature, and their handling of it is also subject to their own privacy terms.
Hachi does not store your photos or recordings. A photo is used to read its text and is then discarded; a recording is deleted from your device as soon as it has been transcribed. With each card we keep only a short note of where it came from, such as “From ChatGPT · Job interview prep” or “From a photo”, and the example sentence shown on the card.
Storage and sharing
Mobile app decks and cards are saved locally on your device. Words and playlists saved through the ChatGPT connection are stored in your online Hachi account so they can be retrieved later. Some vocabulary-list sharing or import features may transmit a list and its contents to online storage so it can be retrieved using its share link. Don’t share information you don’t have permission to disclose.
Permissions and device information
Camera, photo-library, and microphone access are used only when you choose the related capture or recording feature. The website may receive standard technical information needed to deliver and secure pages, such as your browser’s request and network details, through its hosting provider.
How information is used
We use information to provide the features you request, save and retrieve shared vocabulary lists, respond to support requests, and operate and protect the service. We do not sell the text, images, or audio you submit for extraction.
Retention and your choices
Decks saved on your device remain there until you delete them or remove the app. Words and playlists in your online Hachi account remain there until deleted; contact support if you need help with your account or data. Information submitted to third-party services or through a shared-list feature may be retained as described by those services and features. You can choose whether to use AI, image, audio, or sharing features; you can also manage app permissions in your device settings.
Children’s privacy
Hachi is a general vocabulary-learning service and is not designed to collect personal information from children. Parents or guardians with a privacy question can contact us.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the service changes. The effective date above shows when this version was last updated. For privacy questions or requests, email support@hachi.space.
